Remnants of Old Republic
Remnants of Old Republic is a music video for a remix I composed. The project was made with 60s to 80s South Korean commercials.
South Korea was experiencing a reign of military juntas during the 60s to early 70s (2nd to 5th republic era). The Korean government was censoring all kinds of media in order to maintain dictatorship. Music and the arts were especially censored by the government. The only approved music was often conservative and non-experimental. Rock and disco genres were not allowed to be on TV or radio. The rise of the democracy led to revolutionary development in pop culture.
However, in 2017, remnants of the Old Republic began taking over the government and South Korean society.
This project is a recreation of 60s and 80s pop culture using post 5th Republic era media to criticize the current South Korean government.
